Setting up the Simulation

A. Selecting the Map

When you first load mental maps the toolbar on the top of the screen looks like this:

1. the first thing to do when starting a simulation is to select a map. To do this, move your mouse over the map pull down menu and left click. (You should get a menu similar to the one below)

2.Position your mouse over the map you wish to select (It will be highlighted), and left click again to select this map.(Below United States with States is selected)

3.After you select a map, It will appear in the drop down box, and an outline of your map will appear on the screen. The toolbar will now allow you to access the Locations and Questions Menus.

 


B. Selecting the Number of Locations

1. To Select the number of Locations you would like in the simulation, Click your mouse on the Locations drop-down menu.

2. A menu similar to the one below should appear:

3. Highlight the number of locations you wish to include in your simulation, and left click again. (below 5 locations is selected)

The number of locations selected will now appear in the drop down box.

 


C. Choosing Questions (optional)
If you would like to answer questions about the locations (Population, temperature, etc), go through this procedure

1.After a map is selected, the Questions Menu should be enabled, left click on the menu below

Clicking on the menu will pull up a drop-down menu similar to the one below

Note: The questions available for each map are different, so don't be suprised if some of the questions available in this menu are not available for your Selected map.

2. To select a question, left click on the box next to it. To deselect a question, click on a box which has a check mark in it. To select multiple questions, you must access this menu multiple times (You may only select or deselect one question each time this menu is accessed) (Below questions "Population" and High Temperature are selected)
